They largely melted away by the early 1990s as the glacier retreated, and what remains today is unpredictable year to year, sometimes absent entirely. 4. Eisriesenwelt, Austria
The largest ice cave system open to the public in the world, Eisriesenwelt sits inside a mountain in the Austrian Alps and is reached by cable car followed by a steep hike to the entrance. Unlike the glacier caves on this list, this is a limestone cave that happens to fill with ice through a natural airflow effect, which makes it far more stable and why it has run guided tours for over a century.

Not an ice cave in the glacier sense at all, Ape Cave is a lava tube near Mount St. Helens, one of the longest in North America.
